I have talked and written about this same subject and it seems you have some good insight on this topic. I enjoyed the article. I am wondering why so many people these days want a massive fantasy book when decades ago they would fit into your back pocket? Part of that is economics I think and the reader can be more demanding now days. Fantasies now seem to be more like epic soap operas whereas used to folks liked a simpler story with one main protagonist carving his way through the world.

Sure Kat, send it over, it will be fun to compare. It might be a case of seeing the same place - I'm not entirely convinced that this is all fictional. We work on our worlds by correcting mistakes, taking out bits that are untrue, until we are left with something that closely resembles the vision. But where does that vision come from?

Hi Greg,
Firstly, I love your writing style and visionary concepts. For many years I have been working away on a fantasy fiction novel and I am now concerned as the map of Eyri is so similar to one I painted for my book ,it concerns me greatly, as I have no wish to plagiarise in any way, shape or form.
As I have made many changes to my map over the years, to enable the plot to flow (ie; distance for characters to travel my biggest issue) and as my book is not yet published, I am able to alter the map of my world The Kingdom of Tor.
May I email it to you for your consideration? I am happy to change anything.

Hey Doug, thanks for dropping by. You can safely ignore this article, which is old now. I have had absolutely zero success with banner ads, pay per click, blog ads, book trailer, etc. and most of the popular bargain ebook sites. The only thing that worked was free days and associated 'love' from the amazon algorithm. That's changed somewhat with amazon's new shift away from encouraging widespread publicity of freebies, so I'm not sure what to do now other than schedule free days occasionally. The only effective ads I've placed for a 'special $0.99 deal' period is with bookbub. Check them out.

Interesting article. I have some books on Amazon that are doing very well (Exodus: Empires at War: Book 1 has almost 10K sales). But others, even with good reviews, aren't moving so well. Aura, a fantasy novel, has been called in one review one of the best of the genre, but has only sold a hundred books in four months. I may try the click to pay banners and see if that helps.

Hi Dan, Riddler's usually hovers around $2.99-$3.99. Did I get a design firm to do the cover? I AM a design firm (eternitypress.com), I did the typography and overall design brief, but the cover art was commissioned from http://thedurrrrian.deviantart.com/ who is an incredibly talented artist and very affordable.

I think we have a lot of the same tastes in fantasy. As soon as I read this line in your review I knew this book was probably going to be a good one. And I also knew your book would probably be a good one.

"For me, an outstanding aspect of the writing was the depiction of the intimidating, hardened veterans whose hatred has kept the neighbouring lands locked in a seemingly eternal war, and the fact that the reason for the war has been forgotten (as with many prolonged wars throughout history, the war continues on the momentum of racial hatred guided by stubborn egotistical rulers)." -- Greg

Great overall review. I think I might just pick this up.

I just started a little blog and am getting together a post by interviewing published authors with the same 5 questions... I have a poet (Linda King), an award winning playwright (Raymond King Shurtz), and am nearly to a 'yes' on a couple others. I would LOVE to include you in that list as well as a link to the place of your choice.

Thanks either way,

I love the cover of this book. Did you have a design firm do it or did you do some or part of it yourself? I read epic fantasy ALL the time, so I'll follow the amazon link over after I post this comment.

The Synopsis is very well done and bodes well for the bok itself. I think you strike on a number of very cool things, especially the Lifesong. That certainly has me curious. How much is the book under normal circumstances?

This is an epic fantasy novel that doesn't follow the now very over used formula that so many books in the genre follow yet it still stays comfortably within the genre. This makes a refreshing change. Add to this a heap of imagination and a talent for clear writing and you have a great book.
